CALL FOR PAPERS

“Sharia, Muslim Community Development and Interreligious Relations”

Mataram, Lombok, Indonesia, 7 April, 2018

 

Ulumuna, journal of Islamic studies published biannually by State Islamic University (UIN) Mataram, is pleased to announce its third annual conference. The grand topics are Islamic Law (Sharia) and Development of Muslim Society (Da‘wa). The journal accepts submission of original papers based on library or field research. Papers that approach the topics from various disciplines (politics, anthropology, ethnography, religious studies) and employ a comparative perspective (theoretical, geographical, and historical) are encouraged. The topics include, but not limited to, the followings:

 

Islamic Law (Sharia): Islamic law and citizenship; sharia, ethics and public morality; Muslim-non-Muslim legal and ethical interactions; Minority in Islamic law; sharia, pluralism and interreligious relations.

 

Development of Muslim Society (da’wa): Redefining da‘wa in multi-cultural societies; Muslim religious leaders and community development; da‘wa, peace and conflict resolution; media and Islamic sermon and propagation; Muslim minority, acculturation and integration. 

 

Keynote Speaker: Baudouin Dupret, EHESS and CNRS, Paris, France

Discussants: Mun’im A. Sirry, University of Notre Dame, US and Arskal Salim, UIN Jakarta, Indonesia

Deadline of paper submission: 16.00 WITA (Central/Middle Indonesian Time) 31 December 2017

Notification of Accepted papers: 1 March 2018

Participants Arrival in Lombok: 6 April 2018

Conference: 7 April 2018

Cultural Visit to South Lombok and Departure from Lombok: 8 April 2018
